Mohe Rang de........

Throughout our lives, as citizens our India, we have always been claiming our rights. We have luxuriously been enjoying the privileges of a democratic country that allows us to live a peaceful life securing and safeguarding our interests in the best of its form. Though very often, while voicing out our concerns regarding these rights, we tend to forget our fundamental duties as citizens towards this great nation.'Mohe Rang De...' was just a small step taken by iQuesters to make people realize these fundamental duties where various teams participated to perform a street play and reinforced the reason for celebrating Republic day!

Legal rights of Women

Given below is an email sent by one of our members from qualified legal experts - Saumya Bhaumik (Women Rights Lawyer) & Tariq Abeed (Advocate, Supreme Court)
"Lets be safe by knowing your rights... as women, we are entitled to some rights by law that protect us, specially when we have been violated. Here are some that we should be aware of:
·   Right to privacy while recording a statement: Under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, a woman can record her statement before the district magistrate when the case is under trial, and no one else needs to be present. Alternatively, she can record the statement with only one police officer and woman constable in a convenient place that is not crowded and does not provide any possibility of the statement being overheard by a fourth person. The police have to, by law, protect the woman’s right to privacy. It’s important for the person to feel comfortable and not be under any kind of stress while narrating the incident.
·         Time does not matter: The police cannot refuse to register an FIR even if a considerable period of time has elapsed since the incident took place. If the police tells you that they can’t lodge your FIR since you didn't report it earlier, do not concede. “Rape is a horrifying incident for any woman, so it’s natural for her to go into shock and not want to report it immediately. She may also fear for her safety and the reputation and dignity of her family. For this reason, the Supreme Court has ruled that the police must register an FIR even if there has been a gap between the report and the occurrence of the incident,” says Tariq Abeed, advocate, Supreme Court.
·         Police cannot refuse: A victim can register her police complaint from any police station under the Zero FIR ruling by Supreme Court. “Sometimes, the police station under which the incident occurs refuses to register the victim’s complaint in order to keep clear of responsibility, and tries sending the victim to another police station. In such cases, she has the right to lodge an FIR at any police station in the city under the Zero FIR ruling. The senior officer will then direct the SHO of the police station concerned to lodge the FIR,” says Abeed. This is a Supreme Court ruling that not many women are aware of, so don’t let the SHO of a police station send you away saying it “doesn't come under his area”.
·         No arrests after sunset: According to a Supreme Court ruling, a woman cannot be arrested after sunset and before sunrise. There are many cases of women being harassed by the police in the wee hours, but all this can be avoided if you exercise the right of being present in the police station only during daytime. “Even if there is a woman constable accompanying the officers, the police can’t arrest a woman at night. In case the woman has committed a serious crime, the police has to get it in writing from the magistrate explaining why the arrest is necessary during the night,” says Bhaumik.
·         Women cannot be called to the Police Station: Women cannot be called to the police station for interrogation under Section 160 of the Criminal Procedure Code. This law provides Indian women the right of not being physically present at the police station for interrogation. “The police can interrogate a woman at her residence in the presence of a woman constable and family members or friends,” says Abeed. So the next time you’re called to the police station for queries or interrogation when you have faced any kind of harassment, quote this guideline of the Supreme Court to exercise your right and remind the cops about it.
·         The doctor cannot decide: A case of rape can’t be dismissed even if the doctor says rape had not taken place. A victim of rape needs to be medically examined as per Section 164 A of the Criminal Procedure Code, and only the report can act as proof. “A woman has the right to have a copy of the medical report from the doctor. Rape is a crime, not a medical condition. It is a legal term and not a diagnosis to be made by the medical officer treating the victim. The only statement that can be made by the medical officer is that there is evidence of recent sexual activity. Whether the rape has occurred or not is a legal conclusion and the doctor can’t decide on this,” explains Bhaumik.
·         Protect your identity: Under no circumstances can the identity of a rape victim be revealed. Neither the police nor media can make known the name of the victim in public. Section 228-A of the Indian Penal Code makes the disclosure of a victim’s identity a punishable offense. Printing or publishing the name or any matter which may make known the identity of a woman against whom an offence has been committed is punishable. This is done to prevent social victimization or ostracism of the victim of a sexual offence. Even while a judgment is in progress at the high court or a lower court, the name of the victim is not indicated, she is only described as ‘victim’ in the judgement.
·         Employers must protect: It is the duty of every employer to create a Sexual Harassment Complaints Committee within the organisation for redressal of such complaints. According to a guideline issued by the Supreme Court, it is mandatory for all firms, public and private, to set up these committees to resolve matters of sexual harassment. It is also necessary that the committee be headed by a woman and includes 50 per cent women as members. Also, one of the members should be from a women’s welfare group.

Ring out the old, Ring in the new.... Drunk Driving, let's all eschew...

And so another eventful year comes to an end, with lots of memories we can get ready to usher in a New Year.
Around this time, everybody’s got their minds on their‘Grand Party Plans’ for 31st night. It’s also a time for people to think up their New Year resolutions.  These resolutions often range from simple to the exaggerated and sometimes downright absurd. For some it would be about pledging to lead a healthier life, few others might resolve to lose their virginity :-)
However the question on everyone’s mind undoubtedly would be ‘What awaits us in 2013?’ Since we survived December 21st 2012, what now for humanity eh??
I believe things will change, there is likely to be a collective shift in conscience. We as a country are so off-balance now, the recent agitations in Delhi, the Anna Hazare movements all point to a rise in common man’s concern regarding many of the ills that our society faces today. And when you compare all these happenings, with the so called 21st December 2012 predictions, it makes you wonder whether we human beings really need stuff like Doomsday. Every day we read and hear about things which make you wonder whether Armageddon is needed to end the world, or if left to us, elements of society will think of ways to destroy the world as we know it.
At a personal level, can we not pledge to help; bring about a little more balance to the society? Facts are unnecessary; we all know the number of lives road accidents claim every year. Many of these incidents are a result of drunk driving. Festivals and other Celebratory events often present the greatest risk of such incidents. It’s sad when you go through the newspapers on 2nd January and find plenty of incidents of drunk driving leading to accidents. Why should we as a society devise ways to take lives, when cosmic forces have their own plans lined up? There are plenty of dates predicted for the end of the world. One by one as these dates pass us by; you cannot help think that one of these may be real. In the meanwhile we can do our best to preserve life and let nature take its course.  Events like New Year’s Eve are for celebrations, to spread happiness and joy all around. Often for some, the day turns out to be the worst of their lives. The question here is not one of abstinence, but responsibility and respect. Respect for others and your own life. All it requires is a bit of trouble to ensure that the booze, frolic and the tragic do not go together.
As the saying goes “Drinking and driving: there may be stupider things, but it's a very short list.”

So, let’s pledge not to wreck the holidays. Here’s wishing everybody a happy and safe New Year. Cheers!!!

Merry Christmas!!!

Somehow, not only for Christmas,
but all the long year through,
The joy that you give to others,
Is the joy that comes back to you.
-John Greenleaf Whittier

Christmas, literally meaning the Mass of Christ, is a traditional holiday in the Christian calendar. The festival of Christmas takes place on 25th December, every year to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Christmas is a happy, festive time filled with great spiritual significance. Caroling, feasting, and gift giving along with the prayers and wishes - the Christmas is celebrated with high spirits all over the world. Though the mode of celebration, the dates and the traditions vary, the main spirit remains the same everywhere.

Celebrating Christmas has nothing to do with spending a lot of money and having elaborate parties. The biggest celebrations are the most personal ones spent with people whose company we love. One of the greatest charm of this season is the Christmas carols that exudes a spirit of warmth, generosity and good will that is always welcome everywhere. Christmas carols are always great for getting into the Christmas spirit. Exuberant people bundle up and get ready to spread holiday cheer door to door with beautiful Christmas songs & carols. We had a similar fun of caroling which engulfed the whole of our Kondhwa office, last year with my team singing along few of the most famous carols  for the iQuesters.

The Tradition Of Gifting is the best way to celebrate the festive season that make every moment memorable. The day of Christmas comes with the message of peace for the home, the nation and the world as Jesus Christ taught the humanity about giving peace and happiness to others. The effervescent mood of Christmas gets an added zest with the exchange of gifts, how so ever small or simple it may be. Keeping this in mind, HR & admin deployed Secret Santa games for everyone to create a feeling of Christmas sharing .It involved everyone at iQuest including our office boys & helping hands who run our daily chores at work.
Christmas is a festivity most awaited by children and this has immensely helped in the survival of the legends of Saint Nicholas or Santa Claus and particularly his reputation as a bringer of gifts. From stars to bells to ice cream cones to a snowman, all gifts are inspired by Christmas motifs that infuse joy and happiness. The gift of Christmas also symbolizes purity and simplicity. The elegance of Christmas gifts appeals to all taste that bring a glow to the festival.
We had a surprise Santa Claus of iQuest in 2011 with our dearest Pratibha Maushi (Housekeeping staff) taking initiative to become the Santa for everyone to guess who the person really was. She gave chocolates & danced along while we sang the carols.

I am sure 2012 Christmas is going to be more special for the ones who have been with us for long as well as for the ones who had recently joined us in the iQuest family..lots of surpise on the way, lets look forward to a new beginning , afresh memories to be carved in our memories.

Wish you all a very merriest Christmas season with every one of you enjoying that brings you joy this festive season.
Merry Christmas to one & all, to my iQuest family..cheers!! J

Members  of iQuest Consultants gathered at Central Park Hotel, Pune on Saturday night (16th July'11) for the annual celebration, this year commemorating iQuest Consultants' 11thanniversary. It gave us the opportunity to celebrate tens of thousands of stories, since its inception in the year 2000. The 11thanniversary was a great way to celebrate our association with our clients. It enabled us to focus on telling the stories of the many people who have been impacted by iQuest, from years to years.

The event was hosted to celebrate the joy of fulfillment & the rapport shared with the distinguished clients of iQuest. It was to celebrate in lieu of completion of 11 years in the industry. The theme of the event was “Hawaiian”. To start off, every guest was welcomed with the hawaiian garland by our volunteers from the Pune IT Team viz; Varsha, Susan and Dhanashree.

We had many of our clients gracing the occasion with their presence. Tech Mahindra, Quartics Technologies, Integration Infotech, Garware group, Thermax SPX, Finolex, M.E Energy, Max new york life insurance, Sandvik Asia, Optimus India Pvt Ltd, Phadnis Group, ISMT Ltd, iGate Patni, Euronet,Modular Mining, Anchorteck to name a few. A skit perfomance in the backdrop of the hindi movie Sholay was enjoyed by one & all which actually showcased the dynamics of recruitment process. It was a comic & satirical display of what a recruiter faces in his / her day to day chores. The play was enacted by Sadan ,Akriti & Nilesh (IT Team, Pune). We had few fun games too with even our sporting guests participating, the last being the word search game enacted by Reshma (IT Team, Pune).

Ms. Sanober Golandaj (Senior Manager - Operations (IT)) gave vote of thanks as we neared the end of the evening. The DJ then spun his records & the floor was let open for dance, followed by dinner.

The evening was as much fun as the theme and thus everyone went home happy & contended.

Donate Blood, Start Young........

“Blood is that fragile scarlet tree we carry within us”
-Osbert Sitwell
Quoted aptly by Osbert Sitwell, blood is indeed a scarlet tree of life which one and all can carry within us. Similarly iQuesters have been nurturing a dream which has grown from a sapling to a large flowering tree for over a decade. As a part of iQuest’s continuous endeavor to serve the society, a blood donation camp was organized on the occasion of iQuest Day. This event, a brainchild of the Director, Mrs. Usha Upadhyaya and the CEO, Mr. Devesh Upadyaya, was held in association with the Sassoon Hospital at the iQuest Premises in Kondhwa (Pune).  As often said ‘Desire to help needs to be backed up with proper guidance’, the event was conducted under proper hygienic conditions and using the appropriate safety precautions. At the outset, iQuest would like to thank Sasoon Hospital for extending their support and guidance.

The clarion call was answered with great enthusiasm, the volunteers totaling 55 in number lead by the CEO and the Director themselves. In all 27 iQuesters donated blood, while 22 were declared unfit for donation due to various reasons like less HB, under count or recent menses. This being a noble cause, many first time volunteers put aside their hesitations and apprehensions to lend their full support. “It has been a wonderful experience, especially for a person like me who has always been Noscomephobic (Fear of Hospitals).Frankly speaking, I feel proud to be a contributor.” says Rohit Fernandes, BD Head, Kondhwa.
Those that were unable to participate in the blood donation were actively involved in the arrangements. The delicious snacks spread out for the volunteers ensured that there were more reasons for the glow on everybody’s face than just the good deed. Since it’s inception in June 2000, iQuest has been shouldering the social responsibility of nurturing careers at their nascent stages and serving as a beacon of hope for many working professionals. Similarly iQuest has served as a one-stop solution for fulfilling the Manpower needs for some of the most esteemed companies. On the whole it was an extremely gratifying day, which left a smile on everybody’s face.

Wake up, before its too late..... (Continued)

One of the immediate action is waste reduction. We have to cut the amount of rubbish to be burned. Do not waste resources. Go on recycling!!! Plastic bottles, cans, and used paper are recycled through a resource recycling center. Give away old clothes to someone or remake them. Do not throw away products only to buy brand new ones, one after another. Bring your own bags when shopping to reduce waste from plastic bags. Turn off unnecessary lights. Use public transportation, ride a bicycle or walk to avoid using your car or motorcycle. When you stop a vehicle for a certain time, turn off the engine to save the fuel. Grow trees and protect forests. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen.
Protecting nature and resources leads to the prevention of global warming. Slight efforts by each of us will make a big difference. So, the next time you leave your desk, remember to at least switch off your monitor, as the monitor consumes the maximum electricity as compared to any of the other parts of a computer. Remember to switch off lights, fans, air conditioners whenever you are leaving the room or leaving the house. Remember not to print unnecessarily if you can make do with a soft copy on the computer and save paper. Saved paper means saved trees.
For anybody who is interested in knowing more about global warming, there is an excellent English documentary style movie called “An Inconvenient Truth”
I am sure you will enjoy it...
